Madonna & Mefisto | Good and evil painted in music and myths from medieval Scandinavia

A wonderfully colourful concert awaits you when NORTH WIND perform their portrait of the Virgin Mary and the Devil, with music and texts from medieval Scandinavia. NORTH WIND draws on some of the oldest known sacred music to be found in medieval Danish manuscripts, as well as traditional Norwegian satanic dances and songs and hymns to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

NORTH WIND is a meeting of two strong profiles from differing music worlds in Scandinavia. Øyonn Groven Myhren is one of the most respected folksingers in Norway and Poul Høxbro is a leading figure in the world of early music. Together they form a powerful duo and their individual approaches and interpretations only serve to lend extra colour and excitement to these sounds from medieval times.

Øyonn Groven Myhren is regarded as one of the best Norwegian folk singers of today having won several prizes for her singing at the National Norwegian Folk Music Competition. In 1997 she was awarded The Saga Prize for her traditional singing. She also plays lyre, langeleik and willow flute. Beside Norwegian folk music she also works with medieval music. In 2002 she released the CD “Nivelkinn” together with the acclaimed Norwegian singer, guitarist and composer, Odd Nordstoga, and for that they received the honorable Norwegian Grammy Award. Øyonn Groven Myhren has worked as an actor at The Norwegian Theatre, Riksteatret and Hordaland Theatre. She is daughter of singer and literary scholar Dagne Groven Myhren and traditional musician and philologist Magne Myhren and  grand daughter of Eivind Groven.
