Echoes from Middle Earth
: exciting stories and fascinating music from the world of the vikings :

The Scalds or Bards - familiar to many - were poet-composers who were held in the highest esteem in the Viking Age. They sang and declaimed powerful verses telling of heroic deeds and the art of war to their own accompaniment on the lyre.

Many archaeological artefacts prove another picture of everyday life in the Viking Age - an age which also reverberated to the sound of instruments made with love and skill.

In this solo programme Poul Høxbro sets focus on the wind and percussion instruments of the Viking Age and on the type of music that might have been played on them.

The programme is a rich mixture of concert and story-telling with historical facts thrown in for good measure!
Poul Høxbro weaves together interesting information, new discoveries, exciting stories and fascinating music to produce a wonderful tapestry of sounds and words.

The programme can be arranged to suit whatever is required.

Poul Høxbro has spent many years researching unknown aspects of music of the Viking Age. He has given numerous performances in connection with this work and given lectures in no less than four different languages. His duo CD "Kvasir´s Blood" (with Swedish singer and harpist Miriam Andersén) is released on the Danish Classico label.
