The flute from antiquity to the Age of the Enlightenment. The world´s oldest
known musical instruments have been found in caves in southern Germany.
and they are 35 - 40.000 years old! Since then the flute has touched emotions with its compelling, intense tone. Flute-virtouso and storyteller Poul Høxbro has taken some flutes from his collection and invites the listener to travel in sound and story from antiquity to the Baroque. His programme encompasses primeval atmospheric sounds, music of the Viking Age, medieval harmonies, Scandinavian folk music, Renaissance dance tunes and Baroque solo suites. Amongst the flutes used are the ancient bone flute, the medieval pipe-and-tabor, the distinctive nordic willow flute and the beautiful Irish low whistle. The music is woven together with quotations, descriptions and magical stories about flutes and flautists. |
