Helpers in the Sky
Nordic saints - portraits in words and music

Medieval pilgrims in the nordic regions would have met people along the way who told new, fascinating stories of the holy men and women whose graves the travellers had come to visit.
If pilgrims were especially fortunate they might arrive at the burial place on the feast day of that particular saint and would thus hear some of the music and songs performed in celebration of the occasion.

Today - centuries later - it is possible to relive some of these sounds and stories, thanks to written sources.

Poul Høxbro has chosen and arranged some of this music to surround tales of portents and miracles, of death and deceit, of heroic deeds and devotion - all stories taken from the northernmost part of medieval Europe.
Stories both real and mystical would have been exchanged by pilgrims in the flickering firelight of evening as they rested in their shelters after a long day of travelling.
